I had a great experience fishing with Ron at Bourbon Country Outfitters. I initially contacted him through his website on a weekend and was pleasantly surprised to receive a response within the hour. He followed up with a phone call, and we discussed the various trips Bourbon Country Outfitters offers. He took the time to ask about my fishing experience and what I hoped to get out of the trip. I decided to step outside my comfort zone and try fly fishing for carp. I explained that my fly-fishing experience was minimal and that I had never targeted carp before. Ron was upfront about the challenge, explaining that carp fishing is technical and that carp can be extremely skittish. At the same time, he assured me that he would provide the instruction and guidance needed to make the experience enjoyable and give me a realistic chance of landing one of the hardest-fighting freshwater fish around. On the day of the trip, Ron communicated clearly and made sure I was comfortable with the plan before we even launched the boat. Once on the water, his instruction was patient, precise, and easy to understand, even when I struggled with technique. He has a boat and gear setup specifically for carp fishing, allowing us to access shallow backwaters and areas that most boats simply can't reach. Ron's local knowledge really stood out. He knew the water, understood the conditions, and continually adjusted our approach throughout the day. Most importantly, he consistently put me on fish. By the end of the trip, I landed a large carp that gave me the fight of a lifetime! I left the day feeling more confident in my fly-fishing abilities, with a newfound appreciation for carp fishing, and already looking forward to my next trip with Ron and Bourbon Country Outfitters. If you're looking for a guide who communicates well, teaches effectively, and knows his fishery inside and out, I highly recommend him.

Great day on the water.  Ron is an excellent guide who takes the time to instruct and coach.  As an avid trout fisherman, this was my first real experience with smallmouth fishing on the fly.  Incredible!  We were on fish all day and the only thing that came close to the fishing, was the creekside lunch grilled while you take a break.  A+++ experience, highly recommended!

Had an outstanding day on the water with Ron. He’s incredibly knowledgeable about smallmouth fishing and clearly knows these rivers inside and out. The guy gives presentations at events on fishing. What impressed me most was how hard he worked all day to keep us on fish. The action was nonstop, and between the two of us we landed well over 30 fish. I brought along a friend with very little fishing experience, and Ron did a fantastic job teaching, encouraging, and putting him in position to catch fish. He was patient, easy to spend the day with, and genuinely invested in making sure we had a great experience. Whether you’re an experienced angler or just getting started, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Ron

I don't know where to start. Ron is an awesome guide. He thought of everything. He knew exactly where to guide us to fish. Ron is very passionate when it comes to fishing. I will use Bourbon Country Outfitter again!!

Ron is an exemplary fishing guide.  Very knowledgeable and eager to teach.  He takes great joy when any one of us catches a big fish.  I keep coming back to fish with him because we have a great time on the river!
